Discover Poblenou, Where the City Meets the Sea
A century ago, Poblenou's mills and factories earned it the nickname "the Manchester of Catalonia." Today those brick warehouses hold galleries, studios, and cafés, and the neighborhood's own Rambla runs all the way down to the sand.
This is where Barcelona locals come to swim, skate, and picnic, with far fewer crowds than the Old City. You live in a neighborhood that people call home, and Gaudí, the Gothic Quarter, and everything else Barcelona is famous for stay close.
Live in Barcelona Without the Crowds
We chose Poblenou because it gives your family three things on your doorstep.
- The locals' beach. Bogatell is calmer than Barceloneta, with volleyball courts, a long promenade, and concerts during the La Mercè festival.
- Room to run. Parc del Poblenou sits between the Rambla and the sand, with playgrounds and bike paths. Parc del Centre del Poblenou, designed by Jean Nouvel, adds more than 1,000 Mediterranean trees.
- A neighborhood that makes things. Poblenou is home to Barcelona's 22@ innovation district. Your kids spend their days around street art, digital art studios, and a city reinventing itself.
You won't need a car. Metro Line 4 stops at Poblenou and Llacuna, the T4 tram runs through the neighbourhood, and several bus lines connect to the center. The Gothic Quarter and Barceloneta are a short metro ride or a 20–30 minute walk. Sagrada Família and Park Güell make easy day trips by metro. Barcelona El Prat airport is about a 25-minute drive, and the city runs on Central European Time, six hours ahead of New York.
Live, Learn, and Work Within a 15-Minute Walk
You arrive to a home that's ready, a place your kids will love to learn, and a place to do your best work.
Education Centre. Boundless Education welcomes children ages 4–12 with Finnish-inspired, nature- and project-based learning. The day runs from 8:45am to 3:15pm, five days a week, with meals and field trips included. The beach and the park become outdoor classrooms.
Local Hosts. Your home in Barcelona is a fully furnished partner home, vetted by Boundless Life. Each one is a short walk from the Education Centre, the Rambla, and the beach.
Community Hub. Work alongside other parents in the heart of the 22@ innovation district, with fast WiFi and quiet space for calls.

Explore Poblenou After the School Day
Most of the neighborhood's best spots are free, and all of them are close to home.
- Bogatell Beach. Wide sand, volleyball courts, and a long promenade for scooters and runs.
- Parc del Poblenou. Shaded paths, open lawns, and playgrounds between the Rambla and the sea.
- Parc del Centre del Poblenou. Jean Nouvel's park, just off the Diagonal.
- Mar Bella Skatepark. Free open-air ramps and bowls for skateboards, scooters, BMX, and roller skates. All levels welcome.
- Street art on Pere IV. Murals on old factory walls, refreshed often. Go in the morning, or join a guided family street-art walk.
- Bubble Planet. Light rooms, glowing spheres, and a giant bubble pit for rainy days. Book ahead on weekends.
- Palo Alto Market. Street food, design makers, and live music in a leafy former factory, on the first weekend of each month.
- Els Encants flea market. One of Europe's oldest flea markets, under a giant mirrored canopy at Glòries. A treasure hunt for older kids.

Barcelona FAQ
Is Poblenou a safe, family-friendly area?
Yes. Poblenou is one of Barcelona's most residential, family-friendly neighborhoods, with a pedestrian Rambla, large parks, and a calm local beach. As in any big city, keep an eye on your bags in busy tourist areas like the Old City and on the metro.
How close is Boundless Life Barcelona to the beach?
Bogatell Beach sits at the bottom of the Rambla del Poblenou, a short walk from your home. Mar Bella and Nova Mar Bella beaches, plus the free Mar Bella Skatepark, are a little further along the promenade.
Can you live in Barcelona without a car?
Easily. Most of daily life, from the Education Centre to the beach, is walkable. For everything else, Metro Line 4, the T4 tram, and several bus lines connect you to the center.
How long can U.S. citizens stay in Spain?
Typically up to 90 days within any 180-day period in the Schengen Area. A single World School cohort is designed to fit within that window.
What is the weather like in Barcelona during the school year?
Mild and Mediterranean. Autumn and spring are warm and sunny, winters are cool but rarely cold, and summers are hot.
