After wrapping up our unforgettable three-month stay in Syros, we flew back to Belgium to begin a brand-new adventure, the final part of the 9-month Trailblazer Program.
Instead of flying to our new destination, we hit the road in Perla, our beloved Volkswagen T3 van, an oldtimer camper we’ve owned for five years.
Perla has been our trusted companion on many road trips, and it felt like the perfect way to start this final chapter in Kotor, Montenegro. We drove through Germany, the Austrian Alps, and Croatia, blessed with sunny weather nearly the entire trip.
We camped in scenic spots, cooked simple meals on the road, and soaked up the views. On the final day, a big storm rolled in as we approached Kotor, but we made it safely to our next Boundless Life destination: the magical town of Kotor.

A Unique Destination
Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is nestled in a dramatic bay surrounded by steep mountains and filled with medieval charm. Its old town is like a living museum with narrow cobbled streets, historic churches, and fortress walls that climb into the hills.
There’s something incredibly special about stepping out of your front door and immediately being immersed in centuries of history.
We’re lucky to be staying in an apartment right inside the Old Town. And although it can be busy here, we like our place. Every morning, we wake up to the sound of church bells and take the short 5-minute walk to the new coworking space. The girls’ Education Center is also less than a 10-minute walk away.

Welcome Ceremony & Settling In
Our first week began with a beautiful welcome ceremony at the school. It was so fun to reconnect with the Trailblazer families in a new location and meet the new families joining this cohort.
There’s always a mix of nerves and excitement when starting fresh in a new place, but the warm Boundless community made us feel right at home.
After the ceremony, we all gathered for a relaxed lunch by the seaside. The girls ran around with their friends while we chatted and enjoyed the coastal mountain views. It was the perfect way to ease into our new surroundings.
Montenegro is completely new to us, and we’ve been genuinely excited to explore it. Kotor and its surroundings offer so much to see, and we’ve already realized we’ll need to do some proper planning if we want to experience it all during our three-month stay.

School, Field Trips & New Projects
Yuna and Hanne had a great start at school, even though Hanne was a bit under the weather during the first week. Here in Kotor, they’re diving deep into their place and project-based learning, based on the legends of Kotor.
Their first field trip in this cohort was a guided walk through the old town of Kotor, learning about its rich history, legends, and architecture.
After that, they went for a hike up the ladder of Kotor, a zigzagging trail that climbs up the mountain behind the old town. The view from the top is absolutely breathtaking, with the Bay of Kotor stretching out below like a painting. All went great until it started pouring! Everyone was soaked when we got back, but we had a lot of fun!
The kids also started their new Boundless projects. Hanne will make a maquette of a typical Kotor house. Yuna is creating a video of the entire Trailblazers’ journey, together with a classmate. Every student also has a mentor, and on Mentor Monday, we go check on their progress and help them out. I am helping a student with social media management.

Community Events
One of the things we love the most about this program is the community. And also here in Kotor, during our first month, we already had some fun gatherings and events.
For Easter, two of the moms organised a big Easter party. We started the days before with all making Easter decorations together, and on the day of the party, we had a potluck lunch and played a lot of games.

Here in Kotor, the kids also have a community lounge, where they can hang out in the evenings, play games together, etc. And it even has a ping pong table, which has been fun for both the parents and the kids!
On Wednesdays, there is the weekly Boundless yoga session. We have been doing our sessions by the water, and it’s been just fantastic to be able to do yoga in this scenery.

Van Adventures & Day Trips
Our van Perla has already taken us on some incredible day trips around Kotor. In our first weekend, we explored the Lustica Peninsula, visited an old Austro-Hungarian fort, and wandered the picturesque fishing village of Rose. The girls loved watching the boats in the harbor and exploring the fort’s hidden passageways.
We also spent days discovering Herceg Novi, Cetinje, and Budva, all unique in their architecture, vibe, and scenery. Montenegro’s coastal roads are an adventure in themselves, winding along cliffs and through tiny villages.
If you’re considering visiting Montenegro, we highly recommend bringing your own car or renting one. It gives you so much freedom to explore beyond the old town and discover the country’s hidden gems.
