Our 9-month Trailblazer journey is flying by, as we are already in our sixth month, having spent three months in Bali and now three months in Syros.
This Greek island has truly become a special place for our family, as we were also here with Boundless Life two years ago. We even started a Syros blog because we love this place so much!
Being a bit sad we had to leave (but also excited for what’s coming next in Kotor), we made the most of our final weeks with unforgettable moments and connections.
Check out our second month in Syros, if you haven’t read it yet.

Field Trips & Outdoor Adventures
Yuna and Hanne had the opportunity to go on two exciting field trips with their classmates.
The first field trip of the month was a fun photo scavenger hunt in the city of Ermoupoli, an interactive way to explore Syros’ capital. Afterward, they attended a cooking lesson, where they learned to prepare traditional Greek dishes like Tzatziki and Dolma. And the Trailblazers surprised their parents and the other families by offering their home-cooked local dishes in the hub for everyone to enjoy!
The second field trip was a big hike, together with a bunch of parents, to Americanou Beach. We ate lunch at the beach, had a sandcastle contest, and then continued hiking from one remote Syros beach to the other. We enjoyed the stunning remote landscapes of northern Syros so much. It was a great day out and one of our favorite field trips so far.

Boundless Projects: Creativity in Action
As part of their Boundless Life education, the kids choose a Boundless Project for each cohort. Yuna and Hanne both worked on inspiring projects. Hanne created a Greek recipe book, complete with her own drawings of the dishes. At the learning celebration, people could download the PDF through a QR code.
Yuna designed her own Syros t-shirts, launching her own mini-business and successfully selling more than 30 shirts with her unique prints. She designed them in Canva, ordered white T-shirts online, and went to a local shop to print them. It’s been amazing for her to see everyone wear her T-shirts by the end of the cohort.

Carnival Celebrations: a Mexican-Inspired Fiesta
One of the biggest highlights of the month was the Syros Carnival. Our group’s theme was Día de los Muertos from Mexico, and everyone was dressed up with sombreros, colorful clothing, and amazing makeup.
The festivities kicked off on Saturday with a lively parade in the old town of Ano Syros, followed by the grand parade on Sunday in Ermoupolis. The carnival ended with a fantastic dance performance on Miaoulis Square. So grateful to be able to experience this incredible event.

Emotional Goodbyes & Greek Traditions
Saying goodbye to Syros and some of the families wasn’t easy. At our final connection time in the hub, it was clear just how much everyone had grown, both individually and as a community. The island left a lasting impact on all of us and we can’t wait to come back here!
One of the most special moments was definitely the concert at Bario some of the parents organised. One of the parents created a song about Syros, and a lot of Trailblazers joined playing an instrument or singing. A magical evening!
The learning celebration was a heartwarming moment. The kids showcased their talents and projects, reflecting on everything they had learned and achieved over the past three months.
All the adults went out for a farewell party while the kids were watching a movie at school, embracing Greek traditions by dancing, throwing flowers, and even smashing plates! Let’s just say it was a fun night to remember and a great way to end our fantastic time in Syros!

Next Adventure: Kotor, Montenegro
While we’re excited for what’s ahead, Syros will always hold a special place in our hearts. This island, with its stunning landscapes, welcoming people, and unforgettable experiences, has given us again memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.
One thing that made saying goodbye a little easier, was knowing that we are seeing all the Trailblazer families again in Kotor, Montenegro, to embark on our third and final cohort of our Trailblazer journey!
